| Customer Reviews: Great 4 price but bad for playing April 27, 2010 A. Duersten (boushkaavonia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Uncomfortable to play due to weight and not that good pickups i bought this and then made a new wooden body for it and then attached the neck i also replaced pickups with EMGs
Great Guitar for $200 April 24, 2010 M. Brown 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I cannot complain about the quality of this guitar given it's extremely low price. The body is not exactly perfect, but it's still very presentable and cool given the clear plastic (or Lucite?). I bought this guitar with the intention of upgrading it with quality hardware and pickups, etc., and really if I could have, I would have bought just the body. I will say that the neck is surprisingly good and the frets are all filed evenly and nothing sharp to cut your fingers. I've had more expensive guitars with worse fret jobs, so Galveston did a decent job here. The neck is thin and fast, with it being made of maple and having a smooth finish, so it plays very well. This is nothing like any normal LP neck. The tuners are garbage and have a hard time holding tune, but easy to replace. The pickups and electronics are low grade, although the tone from them is decent and interesting. The neck is very bassy and fuzzy, which I kind of like for playing "stoner rock," while the bridge is thin, but still has a raw vintage rock tone to it. Again, I'm going to be replacing these, but for now they work. The knobs, pots, and three-way switch seem to be decent quality and haven't given me any problems yet. The guitar is very heavy and solid feeling, and most complain about the weight, but I love it. It resonates very well, even when unplugged, and the tone is different than wood. It's not bright, nor dark. It's kind of middle of the road, which makes it versatile to me. I should note that when the guitar arrived, I pulled it out of the box, tuned it up, and was able to play it without any issues. This was surprising because usually setup from the factory is non-existent, especially from a lower priced/quality instrument. I would say that overall, this is a great guitar for modifying and creating something unique. I always wanted a clear guitar like the Dan Armstrong, but I never really cared for that body style and pickup options. I was told by someone recently that there were companies making a Les Paul style clear guitar and I had to find it. Given that the guitar is clear and I couldn't find many pictures that show other angles, I wasn't sure if they had copied an arch top or flat top LP. It is modeled after the LP Jr. body style if you're wondering. If you're looking for a clear Les Paul copy, this is the one to buy, and for $200, you can't go wrong.
Looks super cool, plays well CONSIDERING its price March 9, 2010 JP Feast (West Coast, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is NOT a guitar suitable for recording music, but is a REALLY fun crowd/attention drawing instrument and plays well enough to do very small venue performances or mini concerts for your friends. I would recommend a thicker strap (like a bass strap or a 3" strap) b/c this guitar is much heavier than a standard electric guitar (due to the clear acrylic body). At this price point (i think i paid 200 bucks) it's a great value and shipped quick.
